Genre Research

Genre is a word that can be used to distinguish different movies into different types. Genre started out as a French word, "types or class", and the subject matter and style of a movie are distinguished by its content. For example, some horror movies often have scary music in the background, which makes it easier for the audience to put themselves in the movie. 。

-Saw is a series of movies, which is a masterpiece in horror movies and has a very clear genre. In each film, different but related stories are used to complete the story line. In the film, both light and sound enhance the atmosphere. Use different small details to weave through the film and make it more logical.

Thriller

Actors

-Young people tend to be the best audience for thriller movies, they like to find some excitement for themselves in life, and thriller movies are one of the best ways. Appeal to audiences of different ages through different genres. Older audiences prefer detective movies.

-Pride and prejudice occupies a high position in romantic films. Although the story it tells is very simple, it tells the rural life and social style of Britain in the 19th century through such simple story. This film is adapted from a novel. Simple feelings expressed through many methods of filmmaking. Especially through high-key lighting. This can also help the audience get a feel for genre.

Genre can bring benefits to audiences and producers. Audiences can distinguish different films by genre to know which one they want to watch. For the producer or director, they can have a deeper understanding of the audience's demand for the film, which is more advantageous financially. When they know what their benefits are, they can reduce their risk and have the right budget. When a movie has a big budget, it also means the project is big.The films in the picture above all had higher final budgets than their original ones.

Genre is very important for movies. Through the development of the film industry, thriller movies have developed into many different types. Those films on the top demonstrates the different genre of films.

-Science fiction horror:Sci-Fi Horror is a sub-genre of both Science Fiction and Horror that uses scientific advances or futuristic settings as a source of fear

-Slasher movie-sometimes referred to as bodycount films and dead teenager movies) is a sub-genre of horror film typically involving a psychopathic killer (sometimes wearing a mask) who stalks and graphically murders a series of adolescent victims in a typically random, unprovoked fashion, killing many within a single day.

-Folk horror:Folk horror is a tragedy in which characters unfold in a story, and someone or something in the background is out of character, out of place, or out of place with the people.

-Monster:These include, for example, zombies, viruses, giants, myths. When these things appear in movies, they bring different visual feelings, and there are many classic horror movies of this type.

-Paranormal: events or phenomena such as telekinesis or clairvoyance that are beyond the scope of normal scientific understanding. For example: devil or hell or ghost and spirits.

These are all related to Steve Neale's theory, which includes Repetition and difference. He feels that movies and genre are defined in two ways. First, a movie has to have a genre in order to be sure that it's part of genre. Secondly, the film needs some changes and subversion to innovate and become new, so as to make continuous progress and change, rather than blindly copying the original genre. For example, in a horror movie, not only the scary music, if all horror movies were the same, it would be meaningless.

How has the Thriller genre changed over time?

-Thrillers have changed a lot compared with before, with the development of some film technology and the demand of the audience. Now the stories of some thriller movies become more interesting and attract more people's attention. In the past, there were fewer types of thriller movies, and they were more limited but the stories were interesting, but now they are more through different types of movies. Something about the future of technology, for example, needs to have strong special effects to support the entire movie.

What are the sub-genres / hybrids of this genre?
